5th team 2010-11 roundup

Elizabeth Roche26 May 2011 - 16:14

As is usual, many of the 5th team were taking their first step up into senior netball as they moved up from the junior section.

The first match of the season against Galaxy was close fought, but a win gave the players confidence in each other which grew throughout the season.

Out of the 14 games, the team won 9 and lost 5, but some of these losses were due to basic errors and the players failing to change their play to adapt to the circumstances. It came down to the last match of the season to try to grab the runners up spot in the division and gain promotion. After a tense game where Bromley Ladies rallied and came back to within 3 goals, the win, and promotion, was secured.

During the season Katie and Ruth, both defensive players were deservedly promoted, after some very strong performances. However, Tara had improved so much from working with Ruth, she stepped up to provide support to Sadie, when she came up from the juniors. Beth M and Rosie both gave solid support to the circle defence. In the centre court, the combination of Tess, Beth R and Megan could be shuffled and whatever combination was on the court they usually worked well. Liv P was an asset to the team who played in many positions and always gave 100% no matter what bib she had – shooter, centre court or defence. In the shooting circle, Cara and Rochelle were calm under pressure, with Rochelle showing strong skills and shooting stats.

The 5th team player of the year was Tess, who led the team from centre court. She was a very hard worker, who never gave up, and really did link the defence to the attack. As the season progressed she improved and became very confident, which really paid off when she was selected into the U16 representative squad.
